Home Safety Checks for Seniors

Home Safety Checks to be offered to Westville seniors

Faith in Action South, in partnership with Westville firefighters, is offering free home safety checks to seniors age 60 years and older who live in the Westville Area Fire Protection District.  The checks are scheduled for Saturday, July 19 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Westville emergency personnel will visit with seniors in their home in a friendly, non-emergency situation.  Using a standardized checklist, firefighters and EMTs will ensure the homes are hazard free by checking smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, changing batteries and light bulbs and installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as needed.

In addition, they will check for fall prevention and other safety issues.

Visits are by appointment only.  Call Faith in Action South at 267-2752 by July 15 to sign up or for more information.  This is the 14th year that Faith in Action South has conducted these free home safety checks in southern Vermilion County.

Faith in Action South is an outreach ministry of Presence United Samaritans Medical Center’s Foundation.H
